Dallas Man Miraculously Survives Motorcycle Crash

On March 17, 2011, Texas motorcycle rider, Zacharie Perez, was thrown off his motorbike, smashing in between two cars, after being rear ended on a Dallas tollway. The accident was caught on surveillance tape and shows Perez rolling around on the freeway, as cars swerve and begin to slow down to avoid hitting him. Zacharie Perez, an army veteran, miraculously survives and was able to share his story in an exclusive interview on Good Morning America.

Now being hailed as the “Motorcycle Miracle Man”, Mr. Perez explains how he was heading home and was approximately 5 to 10 minutes away, when he was driving northbound on the Dallas tollway. On passing the car that would eventually rear end him, Zacharie Perez began to slow down with the traffic as he noticed the car in front of him had put on their breaks. The silver car directly behind Mr. Perez can be seen driving at full speed when it hits the motorcycle.

Mr. Perez, who was wearing his helmet, was immediately rushed to Parkland Memorial Hospital. He suffered major injuries involving a ruptured spleen, internal bleeding, a broken rib, road rash, and four broken vertebrae. Doctors were not able to determine at that time if he would need surgery to treat a hernia, but Mr. Perez has expressed that if he hadn’t been wearing a helmet, he probably would have been dead.

Texas motorcycle drivers are not required to wear a helmet.

According to ABC News reports, the driver that hit Mr. Perez had no insurance and was driving without a license. Mr. Perez was upset that the driver was not arrested.
