Widower Files Wrongful Death against Toyota after Gas Pedal Sticks
Posted: July 8, 2011On February 2, 2010, Houston NBC Affiliate KPRC reported that a wrongful death lawsuit against Toyota was filed by Michael Harris of Houston after his wife was killed, when the gas pedal on her 2009 Toyota Corolla caused “uncontrollable” acceleration. Mr. Harris blames the world’s largest Japanese automaker for Trina Harris’s death and is asking for $200 million in damages.
The car crash happened one week before Christmas in 2009, as Trina was driving in the northeast Houston area. The accelerator got stuck as she was driving, causing her to crash into a concrete wall and killing her immediately. Mr. Harris and his lawyer allege that Trina’s 2009 Toyota Corolla contained a defect in its accelerator pedal and are calling Trina’s Toyota a “death trap”. The lawsuit also claims that Toyota knew of its risky gas pedal months before the January 2010 recall of 2 million Toyotas.
With the help from his lawyer, Michael Harris continues to fight on behalf of his wife, Trina Harris, who is also survived by her two teenage daughters.
